As its coming close to halloween today I got a super fun idea for your next Halloween party, Gluten Free Hocus Pocus Spell Book Brownie pops! These are so cute and so fun to decorate. If it’s a kids Halloween party, they can easily decorate their own Hocus Pocus Spell Book Brownie as an activity. These are so much fun and even more fun to eat.
Halloween and Christmas is my favourite time of the year! I love Halloween and Halloween movies. One of my favourite Halloween movies is Hocus Pocus with Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker. I have been watching this movie every year for as long as I can remember. If you haven’t seen the film yet, I highly recommend it. Honestly, I’m not sure how you managed to not see it. TV play it non-stop around Halloween.
Wait until these brownies are completely cold or you’ll get a chocolate mess from the heat. I found popping the brownies in the freezer for 15 minutes or so made them easier to cut into rectangles without much stickiness. Plus, decorating them cold makes the chocolate dry very quick.
For a quick fix you can always use a boxed gluten free brownie mix then decorate them as spell books as I have done. Or you can use my 3 ingredient Nutella Brownies or my Easy Gluten Free Fudgy Brownies but I highly recommend using this recipe.
- 10 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1¼ cups granulated sugar
- ¾ cup plus 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- ¼ tsp salt,
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup Gluten Free plain flour
- 100g chocolate chips
- candy eyeballs
- 12 popsicle sticks
- Preheat oven to 325F/160C/GAS 3.
- Line the bottom and sides of an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper.
- Melt butter in a microwave then stir in sugar, cocoa powder, and the salt
- Don’t worry if it looks gritty; it will become smooth once you add the eggs and flour.
- Set aside for 3 to 5 minutes until it is only warm, not hot. Stir in the vanilla with a spoon. Then add the eggs, one at a time, stirring vigorously after each one.
- When the batter looks thick, shiny and well blended, add the flour and stir until fully incorporated, then beat (The batter will be thick). Beat vigorously here. Spread evenly in lined pan.
- Bake the brownies for 20 to 25 minutes or until a toothpick can be inserted into the center and come out with a few moist crumbs.
- Remove the brownies from the oven and allow them to fully cool.
- Once completely cooled cut into about 12 rectangular squares.
- Melt your chocolate in 30 second intervals.
- dip each Popsicle stick into the melted chocolate then into each brownie.
- Squeeze the remaining melted chocolate into the piping bag or ziplock baggie then cut a tiny hole at the bottom..
- Pipe a dollop of the chocolate onto the back of an eye then place the eye onto the middle of the brownie along the side like shown.
- Pipe a circle around the eye.
- Pipe a zig zag down one side of the brownie.
- Pipe a line straight down next to the zig zag.
- Pipe stitches across the line.
- Pipe 2 half circles on the corners of the brownie.
- Allow chocolate to dry for an hour before serving.
