Gluten-Free Loaded Baked Beans
A Comfort Food Favourite
If you’re looking for the ultimate comfort food side dish, these Gluten-Free Loaded Baked Beans are just the recipe. Sweet, smoky, rich and packed with crispy bacon, they’re a huge step up from a plain tin of baked beans. They take just a few minutes to prepare before the oven does the rest of the work, leaving you with thick, flavour-packed beans that everyone will be asking for seconds of.

Made with Irish & UK Style Baked Beans
One thing worth mentioning is that this recipe uses Irish or UK-style baked beans, such as Heinz or Branston. If you’re in America, your baked beans are quite different as they’re already much sweeter and richer in flavour. Using American baked beans would completely change the taste, so if you’re following this recipe, stick with the Irish or British style beans for the best results.

Smoky, Sweet and Full of Flavour
I started by frying diced bacon until it was beautifully golden and crispy before adding it to the beans. The bacon gives the whole dish an incredible smoky flavour and adds a lovely bit of texture to every bite.
The Ketchup & BBQ sauce adds a delicious smoky sweetness that works perfectly with the bacon, while the brown sugar and mustard balance everything out beautifully.

So Many Ways to Serve Them
One of the best things about these loaded baked beans is how versatile they are. They’re brilliant spooned over a fluffy baked potato, served alongside a full Irish breakfast, or simply piled onto thick slices of gluten-free toast for an easy lunch.
They also make a fantastic dinner served with creamy mashed potatoes. You can even turn them into a simple pie by spooning the beans into an ovenproof dish, topping with mashed potato and baking until the potato is golden and crispy. It’s an easy family meal that’s perfect for colder evenings.

Perfect for Feeding a Crowd
Whether you’re cooking for a family barbecue, weekend brunch or just fancy something a little different for dinner, these Gluten-Free Loaded Baked Beans are a winner. They’re easy to prepare, packed with flavour and can even be made in the slow cooker if you want to let it cook away while you get on with your day.

Notes
Slow Cooker: Add all the ingredients to your slow cooker and cook on High for 4 hours or Low for 8 hours.
This recipe is made using Irish or UK-style baked beans, not American baked beans. I used Heinz Baked Beans, but any Irish or British brand will work.
Feel free to use smoked or unsmoked bacon depending on your preference.
Adjust the amount of BBQ sauce to make the beans sweeter or smokier.
These beans are naturally gluten-free provided all the ingredients you use are gluten-free, especially the BBQ sauce, mustard and baked beans.
Leftovers keep well in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheat beautifully.
They can also be frozen for up to 3 months.
