If you’re a fan of chocolate and hazelnuts, homemade Nutella is a dream come true! This rich, creamy spread has all the indulgent flavours of classic Nutella, but with a homemade twist that allows you to control the ingredients and customize it to your liking. With just a few simple ingredients—like roasted hazelnuts, cocoa powder, and a touch of sweetener—you can whip up your own batch of this deliciously smooth chocolate-hazelnut spread in no time.
One of the best parts about making Nutella at home is knowing exactly what goes into it. Store-bought versions often have added oils and sugars, but this homemade recipe keeps it simple and natural. Roasted hazelnuts create a deep, nutty flavour, while cocoa powder and a hint of vanilla bring the chocolatey richness. You can even adjust the sweetness to suit your taste, using honey, maple syrup, or a low-sugar alternative if you prefer.
The recipe is simple. Only 6 ingredients. No artificial garbage or hydrogenated oils. Lightly roasted hazelnuts combined with sweet chocolate. And it actually tastes just as good at the real stuff believe it or not.
The most time consuming part of this recipe is removing the skins of the hazelnuts. I do this by first roasting the nuts and then rubbing skins off by rubbing them with my hands. I recommend doing this in small batches.
With homemade Nutella, you get the ultimate chocolate-hazelnut experience in every spoonful. If you’ve never tried making it yourself, you’ll be amazed at how easy and rewarding it is. Each bite is rich, creamy, and packed with real chocolate and hazelnut flavour—perfect for anyone who loves a sweet, indulgent spread without the extras. Give it a try, and you may just find that homemade Nutella becomes your new favourite treat!
This homemade Nutella is wonderfully versatile, too. Spread it on toast, drizzle it over pancakes, add it to smoothies, or enjoy it as a dip for fresh fruit. It’s a fantastic way to enjoy a sweet treat while avoiding added preservatives, and it makes for a fun, thoughtful gift in a pretty jar! Plus, there’s something so satisfying about transforming raw ingredients into a luxurious spread right in your own kitchen.

Ingredients
Instructions
-
Heat oven to 350 F/180 C/Gas 4.
-
Place hazelnuts on baking tray and cook in the oven for approximately 15 minutes until the hazelnuts are fragrant.
-
Allow hazelnuts to cool to the point that you can touch them.
-
Use your hands to rub the skins off the hazelnuts. If you gently take a handful in your hands and rub them together, most of the skins will fall off.
-
Place skinned hazelnuts, cocoa, powdered sugar, vanilla, oil and salt into a blender and allow the mixture to blend until it is completely smooth. It will take a little bit for the nuts to completely break down so you may need to scrape the sides of your blender a couple of times until your mixture starts to come together.
-
Remember since this is homemade it will be more grainy that the store bought Nutella.
