Is it even Christmas dinner without pigs in blankets? These bite-sized beauties are one of the most loved sides on the festive table, and thankfully, making them gluten free is incredibly easy. Whether you’re serving them with roast turkey or nibbling them straight from the tray, these gluten free pigs in blankets are always a crowd-pleaser.

Growing up, pigs in blankets were one of my favourite parts of Christmas dinner and now my kids feel the same. Darragh grabs as many as he can when no one’s looking, Isla likes to dip hers in gravy, and even little Willow insists on having her “pigs” on her plate. It’s one of those recipes that brings everyone together.

All you need for this recipe is good quality gluten free cocktail sausages, rashers of streaky bacon, honey, and english mustard. That’s it. Just a few ingredients, but the result is deliciously salty, savoury, and totally moreish. Always make sure your mustard is gluten free. I used French’s English Mustard, this has no gluten containing ingredients. You can make these pigs in blankets ahead of time too, which is a lifesaver during the busy festive period.

I’ve used several gluten free sausage brands over the years from Tesco’s Finest to Aldi’s gluten free range and they all work brilliantly. I used M&S cocktail sausages this time. Just double-check the packaging to make sure there are no hidden gluten ingredients or cross-contamination warnings. The same goes for your bacon.

These pigs in blankets bake up beautifully crispy on the outside, with juicy sausage in the middle. Serve them alongside your stuffing, roasties, and veggies – or pop a few on a buffet platter with dips for a festive party snack. They’re perfect either way!

If you’re planning your gluten free Christmas menu, definitely save this recipe. It’s simple, budget-friendly, and a guaranteed hit with adults and kids alike. Even your non-gluten free guests won’t know the difference they’ll just want seconds!
